School of Business and Management
The Doctor of Science in Management (DSM) ITB aims to create a new generation of
scholars with expertise in research who are able to contribute their research findings
to the development of management science in general. To achieve this goal, we provide
graduates with an outstanding and intellectually challenging research environment.
At the end of their course of study, it is expected that graduates will not only possess
an authoritative knowledge of management science but will also be familiar with relevant
analytical tools in such topics as economics, human resources and organizational behaviour,
maths, and statistics. The program is also designed with a focus on problem solving,
development theory, and business implementations skills.
However, the DSM is open to students from social sciences, engineering, and other disciplines
Management Science incorporates various disciplines with the aid of which it explains concepts of
managing resources (people, methods, machines, and money) to achieve expected organization goals.
Consequently, the DSM is suitable not only for those who have a management or economics background,
but also for others who have the desire to develop and implement management science in their
professional endeavours. The DSM is a Doctoral Program which progresses linearly from the
Undergraduate Program, the Graduate Program in Business, and the Graduate Program in Management
Science of the School of Business and Management. However, the DSM is open to students from social
sciences, engineering, and other disciplines that follow a special pathway known as the Non-Linear
Doctoral Program. The DSM offers a 3-year program comprising 6 semesters with 44 credit-hours.

Computer Science and Engineering
The Department of
Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota is a major
midwestern center for leading-edge research and top-quality education in
computer science and engineering.
In addition to offering the only computer and information sciences
doctoral program in Minnesota, it plays a major role as a source of
talent, graduates and research for the computer industry, locally and
beyond.
Currently, as one of the largest undergraduate programs in the Institute
of Technology, the enrollment in the department includes nearly 660
undergraduate students in computer science, 240 in computer engineering,
and 40 from the College of Liberal Arts who declare computer science as
their major. We also have around 250 graduate students in computer
science; about half of them are working toward their PhD's, and 75 in the
master's degree program in computer engineering. We also offer a two-year
professional master's degree in software engineering with a total
enrollment of around 77 students.
The number of faculty members in the department has been steadily
increasing. They are not only providing high quality undergraduate and
graduate education to the students, but also are immersed in cutting edge
research which covers almost all disciplinary areas of computer science
and engineering. They include: software engineering, computer graphics,
robotics, artificial intelligence, programming languages, database,
human-computer interface, internet technologies, bio-informatics, data
mining, computer networks, high performance computing, computer
architecture, parallel and distributed systems, theory and algorithms,
system software, and several other areas. Most of the research funding is
from federal and state agencies, and some from industry. The department
has a strong industrial partners program with various collaborative
projects with its partners. I am an alumni from the department.
Technological Leadership Institute (TLI)
As part of the Institute of Technology, TLI bridges the gap between business and engineering. Our corporate and academic programs are
developed with involvement from some of industry's top minds. It's world-class training that keeps Minnesota high-tech businesses at the
global market forefront. Established in 1987 with a Honeywell Foundation
endowment, TLI assembles faculty and programs from the University of Minnesota's Institute of
Technology, the Curtis L. Carlson School of Management and the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs.
