IofT 1910W: Robot Pets
Fall 2006
Class Announcements
- Nov 30 -- On Tuesday December 5 we will meet in the lab. If all goes as planned we will go to the Natural Language Lab (in room EE/CS 2-208) to get a demonstration of the speech recognition system that is being developed there. The reading you have for Tuesday will give you some basic knowledge on speech recognition. Do not forget to check the questions you need to address in your writeup.
- Nov 27 -- Do not forget that tomorrow Tuesday Nov 28 we will meet in the lab.
- Nov 20 -- Do not forget that tomorrow Tuesday Nov 21 we will meet in the lab.
- Nov 20 -- Interested in RFID tags? read about issues on security for RFID tags in passports in Cracked it! , from Guardian Unlimited.
- Nov 7 -- Details on the project have been posted.
- Oct 24 -- Details on the term paper have been posted.
- Oct 19 -- I have seen a nice article of the Geminoid, the android that looks like Dr. Ishiguro. The article has an interesting description of how the Japanese society has a different approach to robotics than the US. It could be a starting point for anyone interested in going deeper into this issue for the class paper.
- Sept 18 -- I mentioned in class last week about things that are easy for people but hard for computers. Look for more information on this at http://www.captcha.net/. CAPTCHA tests are used, for instance, by Yahoo to screen bots.
- Sept 4 -- The page is up. There is still a lot of material to be added, but the syllabus is ready.
- July 2006 -- This class is a freshman seminar. The links do not work yet. More information will be added soon.
