Defining Equity in Math

Abstract

During this interactive session, we will draw on the theories of mathematics education scholar Dr. Rochelle Gutierrez to present goals for what achieving equity in mathematics will look like. We will also look at a case study of an undergraduate course from combinatorialist Dr. Federico Ardila-Mantilla. Along the way, we will brainstorm in small breakout rooms ways to apply the theories of Gutierrez in our classrooms, seminars, and other Mathematical communities with a sustainable, bottom-up, micro-level approach.
