Missed exams: There will be no makeups. In case of emergency, a student is responsible to present a valid verifiable reason to the instructor, so that the student may be excused from an exam and an additional weight will be given to the final exam.
Incompletes: The grade of I can be given only to students who have taken and passed two Midterm Exams and who have a valid excuse for being unable to take the Final Exam.
Homeworks: You will have 9 homeworks due on every Tuesday except for the last one. The grading for homeworks will be based on a selection of a few problems (3-5 ones, depending on the difficulty), a selection unknown to the class in advance. You can miss one (and only one) homework assignment with only the modest penalty of then having the other 8 being the best ones. No late assignment is permitted.
First homework assignment: (due on Oct 1) p. 688: 4, 8, 10, 12, 16, 18, 20, 24, 26, 28, 44.
Second homework assignment: (due on Oct 8) p. 695: 10, 14, 22, 24; p. 701: 4, 8, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 36, 42, 50.
