Midterm Exams (1/6 each) | 1/3 |
Final Exam | 1/3 |
The best way to learn mathematics is by solving problems yourself. Part of each class will be devoted to solving problems in small groups and presenting the solutions at the board. You are expected to participate in these problem sessions and to occasionally present a problem at the board. Points will be deducted from your in-class grade for repeated unexcused absences or clear lack of participation.
Homework will not be collected. Instead there will be weekly quizzes taken directly from the assigned problems. If you do all the problems, you will have done the quiz problems. Problems on the exams are not taken directly from the homework but are similar. One quiz score will be dropped to allow for an absence or just a "bad day."
