test0 From: Felix test 1 From: gomath The problems on the exam were much more complicated than the ones we do in class and in homework :( From: Lilly The exam was MUCH easier than i thought!!! From: very unhappy The test was way to hard compared to the lectures and homework, not enough of partial credit was given on the test!!!! From: Steve Prof. Stanton is a great teacher From: jenny When is the final drop date for this class to receive a "W" and not an "F"? From: Me Dont agree with gateway exams. I dont come to class all the time because I know the information, very easy to me. I will get an A on every exam, why should I have to pass a gateway exam? From: Ben Can you post the answers to the practice exams tonight, so we can find out if we know what we're doing or not? From: john doe there shouldn't even be a quiz/homework grade since none of the TA's check homework, and who really knows the information by the time of the quiz. all this does is hurt my grade. From: lara Every midterm you had so far twists the problems at least two of them, and that completely hurts my grade which shouldn't if i can solve every problem from the book. I honestly think all the students agree, and you shouldn't do that with the FINAL EXAM, b/c if we know this material and we don't use the notes, it is fair to give us problems like the ones we do from the book and in class!!! Also, the quizes are not fair too since you only get two problems out of i 30 that cover the section, so that grade pretty much looks like a test grade, not a homework grade (which is supposed to help you out if you do a lot of homework outside of class) From: straight A student (besides in this class >:O ) I feel like the practice exams don't really prepare you for the actual exams and I feel like the home doesn't always reflect the difficulty level of the problems are the tests so no matter how much I prepare I feel like I'm not going to be prepared enough. From: student I feel like the class is a complete waste of time, this is the worsti course I have ever taken. What a waste of money, for everything, Calculoss. From: Jeez louise In response to some of the previous comments: this is college. It's not supposed to be easy. The course requires hours of effort outside the classroom. Why should midterm exams have the exact same problems as you do on the homework? They are supposed to test your knowledge of calculus, not test your ability to copy from a notebook or regurgitate answers from problems you've already done. On every test, there have been many students who get A's and B's, so obviously it is not impossible. We only have 1 more exam, the final, so buck up, prepare for it, and show the everyone what you can really do. Good luck From: l.l. haha that was funny ,, but yeah true From: The Professor I can understand frustration on exams, but each exam is designed with questions of varying difficulty. There are questions all people expecting to pass the course should get, up to questions (I expect) only A students to get. These test whether you understand the material without having seen the precise question. Also they represent a small percentage of the points on the exam. Good luck on the final exam! From: math finals suck hey, what was with the Rieman's sum question on the final why the heck would I calculate area with that time consuming piece of crap formula when I can do it in a second with an integral. From: Student I've been in school long enough to know that this was a waste of time, for anyone expecting to learn something in class. Pretty much ouside of class, work was with a book that was sloppy at best. I know it's not an easy job to find a book that is appropriate, every few years. However, this is the worst math book that I have ever come across. Jumping around from one topic to another, that is no way to explain a new concept. I would rather pick out my own book to use, then have to be stuck with it. There are no references to other resources in it; and, for the higher meritting problems shyly touched upon. Problems that were found on the tests, were hardly mentioned. Overall, it takes more time trying to decifer what exatly the book is trying to say, than it does to learn the material itself. The poor quality of the book gets in the way of the course of calculus. The importane placed on the homework for this class only appears to be slightly marginal. The fact is that the discussions, are not discussions. Students are supposed to learn from this goup setting together, but it's just a random lecture. In absence of actual student participation, the classes should be divided up into lecture sections, without discussion group. The instructors could then have more focused lectures, more often that way. The board is difficult to read in lecture, after th messy professor who forgets to wash the board before class. Every session, was a struggle to read the board and follow along. Students are forced to fall back on the book and homework. In example, I have never had an instructor, of any kind, refuse to answer my question about the subject, like I had happened to me this semster. Further demonstrating to me the unreasonability of a discussion group with the lecture and the homework plan. Sincerely, A Concerned Student From: Calculoss is right, what a joke! i found little correlation between the review questions in lecture and the final questions. what a waste. that final is worth forty percent- OMG. From: one more thing: linear approximation on the final - cowardly act. From: John Waters The final was not a good summary of the important concepts covered in class. I will not be taking the rest of my mathematics courses at the U. I'll give my money to some other exchange university. From: final blues linear approaximation should have not been on the final,, From: final grades???? is the link for the final grades just postet without THE GRADES or am i not able to see it???? From: Haha the link doesn't work hahahaha From: where are the grades?? no grades posted on the final grades link!! From: where are the grades??? no final grades or final exam grades are posted!!!! From: no grades ohhh nooooooooooo!!! From: Katie Grillaert Wonderful professor. The only math teacher I've ever had who could truly teach. From: Tyccho test from January 9, 2007 From: 1:25 - 2:15 The lecture hall this class is in is exceedingly uncomfortable and lacks left handed desks for us students so inclined. It would be nice to get a different or additional room for exams, as the incredibly cramped quarters of Phys 170 will make exam taking with note referencing etc. very difficult. From: math is not my major i really think gateway exams are a huge waste. i spent more time worrying and stressing over the gateway exam than preparing for the actual exam. Over the course of a semester should someone get high scores on the actual exams and not pass any of the gateways, then is it right to fail them? From: feeling dumb That was the hardest test ive ever taken....ever From: J-Money Bang A Lot Stanton's statements are hilarious. He one stated, "Don't you see?...Computers are happiest when they're busy doing routine calculations. That's why we feed them a bunch of simple math problems...so they're happy."
