This is an honors course on point-set topology. The official course syllabus asks that we cover: set theory; Euclidean/metric spaces; basics of general topology, including compactness/connectedness. We will likely be covering this and a fair amount more.
One of 2263 or 2374 or 2573, and one of 2283 or 2574 or 3283.
We will be working from Munkres' Topology, second edition.
There will be two midterm exams and one final, each in a take-home format. Each of these exams is worth 20% of your final grade.
The assigned problems for each week are due each Monday in-class at 10:10am, listed on this page. Homework is worth 40% of your final grade. Students must make arrangements in advance if they will not be handing in homework on time.
We encourage you to discuss homework problems and lab assignments with your classmates, including strategies for solving different kinds of problems. However, when you actually write up your solutions, you must do this on your own.
The student conduct code and statements on many other aspects of University policy can be found through this page.
