Math 3592H Honors Mathematics I Fall Semester 2005
Assignment 2 - Due Thursday 9/22/2005
Read: Hubbard and Hubbard Sections 1.3 and 1.4. Section 1.4 seems quite long and probably we will not get to the end of it within a week. In that case I may have to update the instructions below for the exercises.
Exercises:
Hand in only the exercises which have stars by them.
Section 1.3 (pages 68-71): 2, 4, 5*, 7, 9, 10*, 12*, 16, 20, 21*, 22
Section 1.4 (pages 86-89): 3c*, 4, 5b*, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10*, 12, 16, 17, 19, 23, 26
Peter's Comments:
Tomorrow (and every Thursday) you will have a quiz which will probably take 10 - 15 minutes in the recitation. The questions in the quiz are closely related to the homework questions on Assignment 1 which you also hand in tomorrow. My intention is that if you have done the homework then you should be able to do the questions on the quiz in a more-or-less routine way.
I do not allow the use of books or notes when you take the quiz. For tomorrow's quiz (and probably for the others as well) I do not want you to use calculators. My reason for this is that you have been doing quite a lot of calculational things in the homework, and some people may have calculators which can do these types of calculations without you really understanding what is going on.
