On 2/16/06 we will have the first mid-term exam, which will be about Sections 2.9, 3.1, 3.2 and 3.7. You may use a calculator. You may not use notes, the book, or a computer.

Read: Hubbard and Hubbard Sections 4.1 and 4.3.

Exercises:
Section 4.5 (pages 452-455): 6, 7, 8, 11*, 12, 13, 14*, 15, 16, 18*, 19.
Section 4.8 (pages 483-485): 1, 2*, 3, 4*, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11*, 13, 14*.


Comments
We are making very rapid progress by missing out several sections from Chapter 4. I am trying to concentrate on the things I think you really need to know. Altogether we skip 4.2, 4.4, 4.6, 4.7 and 4.11.

In Section 4.5 the heavy-duty result is Fubini's theorem, but they relegate the proof to an appendix. For your purposes the more important thing is to be able to do calculations where you change the order of integrations, and I think you probably have already an idea of how to do this. In fact, I think you could probably do the exercises to Section 4.5 right now. I realize also that in class I was using Fubini's theorem on Monday 2/13/06 when I was suggesting how to do Exercise 4.1.10.
