Comments:
The second mid-term exam will be on the sections we have studied from Chapters 4 and 5, which are 4.1, 4.3, 4.5, 4.8, 4.9, 4.10, 5.1, 5.3. Although I skipped it at the time, I see that in fact I have been assuming that you are familiar with the 'small catalog of parametrizations' which appears on pages 535-537, except that we have not parametrized surfaces of revolution in class, but I think you can probably do this already. We have seen polar, cylindrical and spherical polar coordinates, and also how to parametrize the graph of a function.
On this exam you will be able to use calculators. I have been wondering whether it would helpful to allow you to use books and notes. I see no reason why not, and I think we should discuss this.
